The Pere Charlevoix Park has been a stopping place for visitors since 1977.  The purpose of the Park is to provide a resting place for all people wishing to enjoy the magnificent view.  Located within walking distance of downtown, visitors can stroll north to Dixon Avenue and turn toward Lake Michigan to enjoy this little mini-park that overlooks Lake Michigan, 50 feet below.  

Sit on the benches for a while and enjoy the beautiful plantings of the Park.  In the spring you'll see a "host of golden daffodils".  In the summer, Snapdragons are featured along the iron fence, banked with colorful Petunias and white Alysum, providing an antique look.  Impatiens in the shaded area near the two large granite boulders add a carpet of color.  The boulders are estimated to have come from the Canadian Shield areas of Michigan and Canada, gourged out of bedrock and transported by glaciers during the Pleistocene Glaciation.   The smaller boulder was given and placed by the Medusa Cement Company.  The large one was given to Charlevoix County and placed by the Swanson Construction Company. 

This Park is a great place to enjoy the beautiful northern Michigan sunsets over Lake Michigan.

The hillside features a stairway inviting you down to the beach.  Feel free to take off your shoes and enjoy a walk along the water's edge.
