Adopt-a-Highway Pickup

Monday, May 11, 2026 9:00 am
Meet at the Genesis Church Parking Lot

The first highway cleanup of the year will take place on Monday, May 11. Meet at the Genesis Church parking lot across from the Charlevoix Community Pool at 9am.

Bring gloves and wear sturdy boots or shoes. Safety vests and trash bags will be provided. Help us keep our 2 mile stretch of US-31 litter free! In the event of rain, we will meet on Friday, May 15 Hope to see many of you there!

Our speaker will be from Morgan Composting - makers of Dairy Doo products. The company is a family business started in 1996 as a solution to a manure management problem on their 200-head dairy operation. Now the cows have been sold and just the composting operation remains. Through their Dairy Doo line, they promote sustainable agricultural practices and are an innovative provider of economical and healthy soil products.

We are looking forward to seeing our fellow gardeners at our annual plant sale in May. Our members worked hard through the fall to dig and divide beautiful perennials - preparing them for safe storage through the winter.

This annual fundraiser for our club supports the work we do to maintain nine gardens throughout Charlevoix.

Combating Weeds in Your Garden Without Herbicides

April 15, 2026 Herbicides kill plants - or (for pre-emerent herbicides) prevent plant germination. Overspray from herbicide application will kill desirable plants. Water runoff from areas where herbicides are used can impact the water in the entire watershed. Gardening to Protect Lake Charlevoix

March 11, 2026 At our March Membership Meeting we enjoyed a presentation by Tom Darnton, President of the Lake Charlevoix Association . Lake Charlevoix is the third largest lake in the state with a surface area of over 17,200 acres and 56 miles of shoreline. The maximum depth in the main basin is 122 feet and in the south arm, 58 feet. One of the primary goals of the Lake Charlevoix Association is to serve as an advocate for sensible and sustainable practices for lake use

Vegetable Garden Awarded Grants

March 3, 2026 The Charlevoix Area Garden Club has been awarded a 2026 “Plant America” Grant from the National Garden Clubs, Inc. The funds will be used to expand infrastructure at the Club’s Community Vegetable Garden in order to increase production of fresh, organic produce to be donated to the Charlevoix Community Food Pantry. A committee reviewing grant applications evaluated 127 applications submitted from across the United States, and the club’s Community Vegetable Garde
